Fourth dimensional learning : flow state
You may remember, that I introduced fourth-dimensional learning in a previous article.
Recap
Third-dimensional learning is a cube-based model, that we use at AWA to structure our learning programs for organisational and personal change. The 3 dimensions are horizontal learning (skills), vertical (internal strategy), and experience (in class and in real life (IRL)).
All our programs are structured like this and are learner (not teacher) focused.
The fourth dimension depends very much on the inner ability of the teacher and their ability to transmit the energetic shape of the learning so that the concepts are better internalised by the learner. This is done via embodying the teachings as an internal pattern, tuning in to the learners as a group, and overlaying the energetic pattern required to succeed such that the learners can intuit it, and replicate the pattern for their use.
Flow state
In the last article on learnings from India, and her amazing temples, I explored what our state of consciousness is, how it affects our awareness, and the resultant decision-making capabilities.
Exploring our different levels of consciousness and awareness, we find that the emotional landscapes that we bring to our everyday life and especially work, directly affect how we perceive the world.
This is important in our work as change agents because the client’s inner state dictates what they can understand of the concepts we are trying to teach.
Example
Many family films have multiple threads woven through them. There is a thread for young children, often overly expressive, making it very clear what the character is feeling. There is a thread for adults, exploring deeper concepts that the children are unaware of.
A great example of this is the film Inside Out. A film about tiny characters inside us. This is fun for kids and represents a much deeper truth about ‘parts work’ and Internal Family Systems (IFS) from psychology for adults. It has overly expressive characters and a deeper meaning for adults. Only with an adult awareness can you perceive all of the wisdom.
Both threads weave themselves through the film, with only the adult being able to see both.
Experimenting with emotional state and resultant consciousness
Fourth dimensional learning must therefore include an element of shifting the state of consciousness of the learners to a state where they can receive the energetic download of the teacher.
Or energetic state, or levels of awareness, are directly related to our ability to perceive the concepts provided. To enable cognition, it is therefore necessary to first shift the levels of consciousness of the receiver.
Happy Clappy hippy stuff
Over the years, I have heard many ways that people try to express the type of teaching they feel is not relevant, appropriate, or grounded in the day-to-day.
Happy clappy, woo woo, hippy, tree hugging…
I have come to realise that the reason that people use these terms is that the level of consciousness that they are experiencing is not yet ready to receive the download of deeper emotional connection that is required for them to progress with the subject matter.
In these cases, most teachers will dumb down the content to appeal to the ‘grounded’ and physical world-plane thinking person. Whilst this has some benefit, the real shift that needed to happen was that the attendees needed to open themselves to possibilities they had not yet considered.
The reason this is so hard is that most people do not have the adequate tools to explore their inner landscapes and adjust their emotional defence mechanisms that hold their rigid consciousness in place.
Tooling for enabling the receiving of wisdom
For those wishing to go deeper into change, we must learn a new toolkit. A toolkit that unlocks the inner defence mechanism that keep our clients stuck in patterns of low-energy thinking, and emotional avoidance of the real issues in their lives that are making the wisdom of our teaching opaque to them.
If we are to progress as a species and come to thrive in higher levels of complexity, we must first learn to unlock the emotional protectors that stop us from adapting. This means having a rich toolset that allows us to go inwards both in ourselves and enable others to do so for themselves.
Shifting states of consciousness to enable higher levels of awareness that enable us to learn faster and appropriately is the next frontier of change.
A retreat for advanced practitioners
The Spiral Butterfly retreat for advanced change agents website is launched. The first retreat will be run at cost and invite only. Invites will be provided for those who are paid subscribers of this blog, people who work with AWA and Bryter Work, and those who have shown a keen interest in my work over the years. You can additionally request and invite if you can show your work and dedication to growing the field of change agent work and have done at least one course with AWA in the past.
In this retreat, we will explore practical, and methodical, tools to shift consciousness to enable a higher level of perception and absorption of energetic patterns required to thrive in complex environments.
The 5 day-retreat details can be found on the sprialbutterfly.com retreat website.
